DAY PROGRAM

participation in whatever form, is an integral part of independence. We are constantly developing programs that will enable our residents to explore their communities, interact with people who are not disabled and, take advantage of the opportunities they present. These include:

• Faith-based activities
• Recreational activities using community resource such as the YMCA or local health club exercise classes
• Attending theater presentations, movies, museums, sporting events
• Shopping for groceries and clothing in the community
• Activities suggested by our residents

We emphasize the importance of educational activities and provide support in one-to-one and group settings, at the Center, in individual homes and at venues within the community. These include:

• Academic skills such as reading, writing, math
• Computer skills
• Interpersonal skills developmental
• Activities of daily living such as real planning, nutrition, budgeting, banking, finances
• Arts and crafts activities/classes
• Community transportation training

JOB COACHING

for volunteer or paid employment is a positive step toward self-reliance.

Our experience has shown that residents wishing to work have the ability to learn skills that could lead to employment within the community and the feeling of independence that bringing home a paycheck provides. Therefore, we offer life-transforming instruction in

• job seeking skills
• interviewing
• dressing for work
• skills assessments
• career and volunteer exploration activities
• vocational skills training such as getting along with co-workers, following directions, etc.

"Opportunities in Action" programs are enhanced by our experienced and talented network of education providers as well as partners including:

• Occupational, Physical and Speech and Hearing Therapists
• Behavior, Mobility and, Adaptive Equipment Specialists.
